New Rouge: The New Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area--infused with New Orleanians in the Wake of Katrina (KinsellaLaw)
This site is under construction--but centered around the new nickname for Baton Rouge: "New Rouge", to refer to the huge influx of New Orleans residents who fled the devastation of
hurricane Katrina in September 2005. See, e.g., this Houston Chronicle piece, Capital city struggling with inflow (Sept. 3, 2005),
reporting: BATON ROUGE
Capital city struggling with inflow
Storm evacuees buying up homes and crowding the stores and roads
By KEVIN MORAN
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Is it New Rouge or Baton Orleans?
As tens of thousands of people continued to flee New Orleans this week, Baton Rouge residents are
experiencing an influx of new neighbors. The two cities' populations are swiftly blending as storm
evacuees have snapped up every apartment and rental house in Baton Rouge and are trying now to beat
each other to houses for sale in this city, which until this week had a population of 228,000.
